Key information for Summer 2.

Arrival and collection

Remember, we need to arrive into school at 8.55am each morning and our collection time is 3.05pm. Please see Mrs Johnston’s letter which was sent out in July for more details about our new school timings and procedures.

Bringing things in from home

We need to try to limit what we bring from home at the moment. The children should bring in a water bottle which they will take home each day as well as their packed lunch (if they do not receive a school lunch). These will be kept at/under their desk. They can also bring in their own hand gel if they wish. They do not need any other equipment such as pencil cases, stationary etc as they will have everything they need at their own desk.

PE days

Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday. On these days, the children should come into school wearing their PE kit. They do not need to bring in their normal school uniform to get changed into, they will just stay in their PE kit all day. As the vast majority of our PE needs to take place outdoors, they should wear their normal PE t-shirt and a tracksuit/appropriate sports clothing that is suitable for all weather.

Homework

We will do Homework over a fortnightly period.

So, one week we will have a Maths and an English task to complete in our Homework books. These will go home on a Monday, to be returned the following Monday. Homework books then need to be quarantined before they are marked so the children will get their Homework books back on the following Monday.

For the alternate week, the children will be asked to work on some Topic-based tasks which will be in a grid format on a sheet for them to take home. These suggested tasks can be done at home in those alternate weeks when they don’t have their Homework books. We are not able to bring things in from home at the moment, so we ask that you take photos of any finished tasks and tweet them to us @BishopCEPrimary or send a photo on Class Dojo. We will then be able to give verbal feedback and share the work as a class.

Year 3 Home Learning

Week beginning Monday 20th April

Hello Year 3!

I hope you all had a great Easter and you are all safe and well!  I am missing you all terribly!  I have set this week’s tasks below and hope you enjoy doing them.  I was very much looking forward to learning about the Greeks with you all so hope you have fun carrying out the tasks I have set and I can’t wait to look at them on Dojo when you are done!

Don’t forget – you have your exercise book that you were given to record your work in if needed.  Stay safe!!

Miss Richards

English

Visit the ‘Greek myths for kids’ website and pick a Greek myth to read (or have read to you).  Write a short summary of the myth you chose.  I would also like you to draw a picture to match (I know who will enjoy this job!).  My favourite is Theseus and the minotaur!

In your summary I would like to you to use:

subordinating conjunctions (If, Since, As, When, Although, While, After, Before, Until, Because)

and adverbs of time (when? e.g. eventually), place (where? e.g inside) and cause (why? e.g as a result).

Now you’ve explored a Greek myth, you will know what a myth is.  Myths are fictional and usually about gods and goddesses, sometimes with fantasy creatures in them. They often explain how the world, animals and people came to be and the many mysterious things we experience in the world.

Watch the story ‘Pandora’s Box’.

Don’t worry if this was the myth you looked at last week…this is a different version.  Then look at the PowerPoint below.  I would like you to answer the questions about the story then put together a balanced argument for opening or not opening the box.  Finally tell me what the message of the story is.

We hope to see your efforts! Thank you.

Week beginning Monday 18th May

Hello Year 3!

I can’t believe it’s the week before half term…what a half term!!!  Things are very strange right now and it’s not clear what is happening but you need to know we are all working very hard to think how we can continue to keep you safe because that is our number one priority.  So far we’ve enjoyed Zoom meetings and I’ve heard from lots of you on Class Dojo.  I have loved the pictures and messages you have sent so far…it really makes my day! Remember, I am always on the other end of Dojo waiting for messages and pictures from you all.

As always miss you all and stay safe!!

Miss Richards

Archived Work - May Half Term

May Half Term

Last week we had an amazing response to our Twitter challenge...The Great BIR Bake Off. Thank you so much for your photos - we have some very talented bakers! There were some incredible entries - from cakes and cookies to doughnuts and sausage rolls! We hope you had fun baking at home last week and that you enjoyed seeing the photos on Twitter as much as we did.

This week, as it is half term, we are taking a break from our usual Home Learning. Instead, we would love you to have a go at our '7 days of kindness' challenge. See below for a grid of 'kindness' activities we have put together for you to try at home during half term this week. We have also included below some ideas for the mindfulness activity which is suggested on Wednesday.

As always, we would love to see the children's efforts at completing the activities throughout the week, so please tweet @BishopCEPrimary with any photos. By including our twitter handle @BishopCEPrimary in your tweet, we will be able to retweet your photos onto our Twitter page. We hope to see your efforts!

We have also included below a link to a new story called 'While We Can't Hug' by Eoin McLaughlin and Polly Dunbar. We are all finding it difficult to be away from loved ones at the moment, so hopefully this will be a nice story for you to all share at home this week.

Our regular Home Learning will recommence from Monday 1st June.

Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe, take care of one another and have a lovely half term.

Weekly Twitter Challenge!

One of the highlights of our school year is our Sports Day. Unfortunately, this year, we are of course unable to run our usual Sports Day. However, we had some exciting news recently when County Durham School Games announced that they are running a Virtual School Games this week! The Virtual Games consist of five challenges which are all easy to practise and complete at home, with very little equipment needed. The idea is to practise these challenges at home this week. Then, on Friday 3rd July, have a go and then enter your best score using the Virtual Games website. Can you beat you own personal best by Friday? You can also earn points for our school by taking part in each challenge. Maybe BIR can get the gold!

More information, including details of all of the challenges and how to submit results and photographs, can be found on the Virtual School Games website: https://durhamcls-ssp.co.uk/vsg20/

We would also love to see you practising and taking part in these challenges this week, so please tweet @BishopCEPrimary with your photographs, using the hashtag #CDVSG20. If including children's names in tweets, we ask that you use initials rather than full names for online safety. We would love to see you get involved with this! Good luck and most importantly...have fun!
