Bishop Ian Ramsey Church of England Primary School

English

At Bishop Ian Ramsey C of E Primary School, the teaching of English is the foundation of our curriculum. Our main aim is to ensure every single child becomes primary literate and progresses in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. English at Bishop Ian Ramsey is not only a daily discrete lesson, but is at the cornerstone of our entire curriculum.  It is embedded within all our lessons and we strive for a high level of English for all. Through using high-quality texts, immersing children in vocabulary rich learning environments and ensuring curriculum expectations and the progression of skills are met, the children at Bishop Ian Ramsey are exposed to a language heavy, creative and continuous English curriculum which will not only enable them to become primary literate but will also develop a love of reading, creative writing and purposeful speaking and listening.

The children will have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. In doing so through the subject of English, the children will be upholding our core Christian vision to ‘Shine as a light in the world’ (Philippians 2: 14-15).
